Smyrna, TENN. — Jennifer Baker, PT, CLT-LANA, and Missy Misenhimer, PAT, CLT-LANA, recently joined an elite group of clinicians who are certified by the Lymphology Association of North American (LANA) to treat lymphedema. Baker and Misenhimer represent only 25 certificated lymphedema therapists in Tennessee who have been awarded this designation.

The LANA certification allows the lymphedema patient to identify therapists who have at least 135 hours of training through a qualified school that has honed their lymphedema therapy skills. In addition, LANA certified therapists must pass an intensive examination that tests the therapist’s knowledge of lymphedema management. This certification is the highest level of lymphedema certification available in North America.

Lymphedema, abnormal accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the tissues causing swelling of a limb or body part, is a chronic and progressive condition and early intervention is crucial. It is estimated there are currently 100 million people worldwide who suffer from lymphedema, and they often go undiagnosed, untreated, and mistreated.

“I’d like to congratulate Jennifer Baker, PT, CLT-LANA, and Missy Misenhimer, PAT, CLT-LANA, on receiving the LANA certification and thank them for the clinical excellence they have provided to our community for more than 10 years.” said Lou Caputo, chief executive officer at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center. “Their commitment to our patients allows the TriStar StoneCrest Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department to continually provide first-class treatment while providing superior patient-centered care close to home.”
