The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to TriStar Stonecrest Medical Center based on the results of a recent on-site review by CAP inspectors. Sean W. Silvernagel, MD, Medical Director for the TriStar StoneCrest was notified of the recognition and congratulated for the facility's service excellence. TriStar Stonecrest Medical Center is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

"CAP accreditation has become the standard for excellence in the practice of pathology," said Eric Schuck, MD, Chief Medical Officer at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center. "We are incredibly proud of our department of pathology and laboratory medicine team for their unwavering commitment to patient care in meeting CAP's rigorous standards for accreditation."

The U.S. federal government has recognized the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program.

"TriStar StoneCrest is dedicated to providing the highest quality patient care and this accolade undoubtedly demonstrates our hospital's ability to not only meet expectations but to exceed them," said Lou Caputo, TriStar StoneCrest's Chief Executive Officer. "Our laboratory leadership and staff put in many long hours to prepare the lab for the accreditation review process and I'm extremely proud to see the team's hard work recognized by CAP."

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs and record, and overall management.
