Our oncology-focused rehabilitation team understands how a diagnosis of cancer, as well as surgery and treatment side effects, change how your body feels and moves. Our physical, occupational, lymphedema and speech therapists will help you improve your physical functioning and well-being through individual support.

The oncology rehabilitation programs are a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach developed to provide outpatient rehabilitation to all cancer patients and survivors in need, whether you are newly diagnosed or long finished with treatment.

Our goal is to improve daily function and quality of life for the cancer survivor. Our experienced therapists specialize in a variety of cancer therapies such as:

Breast cancer rehabilitation

  • Prehab: We will provide education and early intervention to increase tolerance to treatments like surgery or chemotherapy and improve your functional recovery as you go through and complete active cancer treatment.

Therapeutic techniques in oncology practice

Occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech language pathology can help to treat and reduce the risk of side effects which can develop from cancer and cancer-related treatments.

We offer rehabilitation and exercise programs (before, during, and after your cancer treatments) that are designed to increase your tolerance to chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and other cancer treatments. Areas of treatment include:

  • Cardiovascular assessment and exercise prescription
  • Chemotherapy induces peripheral neuropathy (CIPN)
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Dizziness or unsteadiness
  • Fatigue management
  • Strengthening assessment and exercise prescription
  • Swallowing difficulties
Lymphedema therapy

Lymphedema is swelling in various parts of the body caused by a build-up of lymphatic fluid in the tissues. It can be caused by damage to lymph nodes or vessels as a result of surgery or radiation treatments for cancer patients. It can also be caused by other surgeries, trauma or infections, or be the result of rare inherited conditions.

Our certified lymphedema therapists help manage this condition through manual lymph drainage and complete decongestive therapy (MLD/CDT). This is the most effective treatment option for lymphedema. MLD/CDT is noninvasive and has no adverse side effects. We also offer education, including proper skin care and hygiene, to teach you how to help prevent lymphedema progression.

Dry needling therapy

Dry needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points (painful knots in muscles), tendons, ligaments, or around nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions. We perform dry needling as a specialized therapy to promote healing and maximize your return to optimal function and quality of life. Dry needling is effective at decreasing pain and muscle tightness, as well as improving motor control, range of motion and overall functional use.
